Sport

Chapel Hill State School has
a strong sport program which we regard as a great asset to all of the
students.
Physical Education
All students from
preschool to year 7 receive regular weekly physical education lessons that
aim to improve gross and fine motor skills, dance co-ordination and ball
handling. These lessons are conducted by our specialist physical education
teacher, Mr. Andrew Parry

Interschool Sport
The
School is heavily involved in Friday afternoon sport. During the Winter
season the school competes in Netball, Tennis and Touch Football for the
girls and Aussie Rules for the boys. Softball and baseball make up the
sports for the Summer Season for the girls and boys of Year 6 and 7.
Teamwork and
co-operation are the main skills we encourage with our students in our
interschool sport program. All upper school children are encouraged to
become involved in these program. Many of our children go on to represent
our West Akuna District, Metropolitan West Region and some have even gone
as far as representing Queensland in their chosen sport.
The children of Year 4 and Year 5 develop their skills through
a program that promotes variety. Sports such as Hockey, Netball, Aussie
Rules, Badminton, Volleyball, Cricket, Rugby League, Ten Pin Bowling are
just a few of the sports that the children undertake to develop their
co-ordination skills
Students in Year 6 and 7 are eligible to
nominate to represent the school in interschool sport. We encourage the
participation of all students as interschool sport presents
a perfect opportunity for them to learn how to be an effective member of a
team and to develop social and communication skills, self confidence and
physical skills.
Teams are encouraged to "do their best"
as opposed to "winning at all costs". This is part of the school's focus
on 'improvement' rather than 'being the best'. All students are asked to
celebrate their participation no matter what the outcome so long as they
have given their best. Children enjoy a range of sports played at our
school and include Australian Rules, Touch Football, Netball, Softball,
Baseball and Cricket. School teams develop a keen team spirit and many are
successful in district competitions.
We encourage the participation of all
our Year 6 and 7 students . Programs for children in earlier year levels
focus on developing the skills necessary to participate in interschool
sport when they reach Year 6 - 7
Perceptual Motor
Program
Year 1 students
receive additional physical education lessons aimed specifically at
developing perceptual motor skills. The development of perceptual motor
skills by students in this age group is a continuance of the Physical
Education Program and assists in the development of reading and spatial
knowledge as well as physical coordination.
The program aims to
further develop children's self esteem and self-confidence thus
encouraging them to undertake recreational activities in the future.
